Bas’ heart soared. Addison had feelings. It took every ounce of willpower he had not to pull her in his arms and kiss the stuffing out of her. He took her hand, eager to feel her soft skin again.

“I’ve been denying my feelings as well.”

Addison’s brows scrunched. “You have?”

“Of course. I was put in a friend zone within twenty minutes of officially meeting.” Bas shook his head. “But I’m glad you turned me down. I wasn’t ready for anything back then. The attraction was there, but I still had decisions to make and wanted to focus on getting my writing back on track.”

“But you’re ready for something now?”

He squeezed her hands. “Yes. I’m glad we got to know each other first. It just solidified what I feel is more than friends.”

“Me too. So what do we do now?”

A kiss was the first thing on his mind, but they still needed to talk. Bas rose to his feet. “Let’s clear this stuff and get ready for s’mores. We can keep talking. Visitation rights for Snowy still need to be discussed.”

Addison took his outstretched hand, and he helped her stand. They grabbed the remnants of their dinner and carried them into the kitchen. Bas enjoyed working with Addison on simple household tasks. They were able to chit-chat or just enjoy the quiet.

“Do you want cider to go with dessert?” she asked while rinsing the dishes and placing them in the dishwasher. “I really hope power is restored tomorrow, or else I will need to take these out and hand-wash them.”

“I’ll help. Where’s the cider?”

Addison pointed to the cabinet. Bas chuckled at the packets of lo-mein noodles. “Are you having a Chinese food night?”

“Sort of. Have you ever eaten yok?”

“Yolk?”

Addison laughed. “Y-o-k or y-o-c-k. It’s a soul food dish though there are arguments that it’s Chinese. Anyway, you can either use lo-mein, spaghetti, or ramen noodles. Add chicken, beef, pork, or shrimp. Onions, seasoning, and top with either ketchup, soy sauce, or hot sauce and a hard-boiled egg.” She groaned. “It is so good. I’ll have to make it for you. I use soy sauce or hot sauce. My sister still uses ketchup.”

“That sounds gross, yet interesting at the same time.”

“I do believe you have a fondness for spam.”

Bas lit the burner and adjusted the flame for the kettle. “Fried spam with Miracle Whip on toasted white bread is the bomb.”

Addison doubled over in laughter. “Did you really just say the bomb?” She took a moment to catch her breath. “And eww on everything that you mentioned for that sandwich.”

“Because hot sauce on spaghetti noodles is gourmet.”

“Or soy sauce,” Addison countered. She patted Bas on the shoulder and smiled. “I like you even with your weird food taste.”

“Right back at ya, Sunshine.”

They finished storing the rest of Snowy’s food in the freezer and made their mugs of cider. Once settled on the floor, Addison ripped open the bag of chocolate.

“Do you know what you’re looking for in a house?” Addison asked as she took a marshmallow from Snowy, who was using it as a toy.
